Can a 102-year-old company really be considered emerging? It can when it scrambles like a startup to find new markets and projects. Such is the case with Pacific Machine, which handles 100 to 140 jobs a month, mostly custom reengineering jobs for customers who need a highly specific replacement or retrofit part. One such job: building safety equipment for 130 existing wind turbines. The contract took months of work to learn the business, but the payoff goes beyond that initial order; with wind-farm turbines coming off manufacturers warranties, Pacific Machine sees huge opportunity in producing better-than-original parts for the industry.
