The Boeing Co. plans to invest an additional $1 billion and add 2,000 jobs to its 787 Dreamliner assembly plant in North Charleston, South Carolina. Boeing currently employs about 6,000 at its South Carolina campus.

The Post and Courier reports that expansion has been an open secret for some time. Boeing has been buying up property adjacent to its assembly plant and has locked up rights to buy more. “This is an expansion on a whole new level,” Gov. Nikki Haley told The Post and Courier Monday. “I think what we’re seeing is a new phas of building airplanes in South Carolina.”
