PEMCO Mutual Insurance recently welcomed Chris Purcell to the organization’s executive team as vice president and chief information officer. As CIO, Purcell will continue to advance the organization’s digital and technology strategies and company-wide operational excellence, as part of PEMCO’s vision to offer superior customer experiences and analytic capabilities.

Purcell is a respected leader in the tech industry, Northwest business community and beyond, and he brings a 30-year track record for effectively leading technology and innovation initiatives for organizations ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.

Previously, Purcell spent more than 13 years serving as vice president of technology at Vulcan, Inc., Paul Allen’s Seattle-based multibillion-dollar investment, philanthropic and technology innovation firm. There, Purcell was responsible for Vulcan’s business systems, emerging technology efforts, R&D engineering and IT operations.

Among other leadership roles, he also served as chief technology officer at McKinstry, a Seattle-based engineering, construction and energy services firm, where he established the digital transformation strategy and technology vision for the company. He also brings significant insurance and financial services experience having served as assistant vice president of information systems and services for Safeco Insurance and as a consultant at Accenture.

Purcell most recently served as an independent advisor and technology consultant for a variety of innovative entities, including KidGooRoo and the National Football League.

Purcell is a graduate of Purdue University and an alum of Seattle’s Leadership Tomorrow, a program designed to enhance the civic participation of emerging leaders in the region. He lives in Seattle with his wife and high school sweetheart, Beth. Together they have two sons and a 75-pound boxer named Kobe.
