Manufacturing
Don Root, Chief Executive, GM Nameplate (Seattle)
By Seattle Business Magazine May 27, 2010
This article originally appeared in the June 2010 issue of Seattle magazine.
Don
Root bought controlling interest in GM Nameplate, a Seattle maker of graphic
overlays, touch screens, brand identity nameplates and other machined
components, from the founding families in 1977 and guided it through dramatic
change in his own industry (the move to digital technology) and in his customer
base (the move of many manufacturers to offshore production). Under his
leadership, GM Nameplate added plants around the United States and in Singapore
and China, and grew to $80 million in revenue. Next up: managing the transition
to the next generation of leadership.
