In 2009, Bryan Goodman, vice president of operations at
Columbia Machine Inc., established a new services division for the
Vancouver-based company, one of the worlds largest manufacturers of equipment
for concrete plants, to custom-build parts and equipment for a whole new set of
clients, generating $1 million in additional sales while the economy was
slowing. He also led an effort to reduce energy consumption and boost
competitiveness, including an employee training session that generated hundreds
of ideas that resulted in significant safety, quality and productivity
improvements.
