The Haskinses started their metal service company, Haskins Steel, in 1955. Since then, the company says, it has never reported an annual loss, not even in 2009. What’s the secret to staying afloat in turbulent waters? “Our innovation in working with our customers has been to loosen credit terms and collaborate more with them in relationship management and treat them more as a strategic partner than merely a customer,” the company says.
