60 Deluxe Years at DICKs Drive-In
For a guilty pleasure, its hard to beat a Deluxe, a shake and an order of fries at Dicks Drive-In. Such fare wont improve your BMI (unless BMI stands for Burger Munching Index). But sometimes you just have to feed the craving. Dick Spady and two partners who are no longer active in the business recognized that appetite in 1953 and started a business that now qualifies as a bona fide Seattle icon.
Ivars: 75 Years
Ivar Haglund died in 1985, but his namesake collection of seafood restaurants remains a spirited link to Seattles early entrepreneurial origins. The folksinger/huckster/prankster made chowder and fish n chips a must-have feature of the citys first aquarium on Pier 54, and while the menus and venues have evolved over the years, the Ivars ethic of humorous promotion and irreverent boosterism continues unabated.
