Newfoundlanders refer to visitors as people who have come from away. On September 11, 2001, about 6,700 passengers on 38 aircraft came from away, having been diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.

The generosity of spirit displayed by the unwitting hosts in those troubling days is the stuff of musical theater, so
Seattle Repertory Theatre partnered with La Jolla Playhouse to premiere Come From Away, featuring a folk-rock score tinged with Newfoundlands Irish/Celtic/English traditions.

It is the first full-scale musical to grace Seattle Reps mainstage in 25 years, conveying what Artistic Director Braden Abraham calls a story of immense humanity that exemplifies what it means to be a member of the global community.
