Live concerts are about the experience: the music, the dancing, the crowd. What doesnt add to the experience are hundreds of people with their smartphones in the air blocking your view as they try to record the concert. And the truth is that when those amateur videographers try to relive the moment a few days later at home, the quality of the sound and the visuals is mediocre at best. This is where Lively comes in.

Lively (www.getlive.ly) is a free app that gives concertgoers access to high-quality sound recordings and videos of bands live performances. Dean Graziano, founder and CEO, came up with the idea at a concert last year. I noticed 20,000 people with their phones out, he recalls, and I thought, Theres got to be a better way to do this.

Graziano created Lively to address not only the issue of audio/video quality but also the question of property rights. What most people dont know is that theyre actually pirating the music when they use their phones to record the show, Graziano says. Lively will be legal and the musician will benefit from it.

Lively uses its own professional recording equipment to make a live album on site. After the show, Lively users can simply accept the pop-up on their smartphones to buy the recording for $4.99. Twenty-four hours later, they can also buy a video of the show for $9.99.

After the app store keeps its 30 percent revenue share, the remaining revenue is split between the artist, who gets 70 percent, and Lively, which gets 30. Artists also gain access to analytics and tracking data that they can apply to their promotion and marketing.

We believe the simple fact concert-goers can immediately take home the audio and/or video of the show they just attended through Lively is pretty awesome in itself, says Graziano. The entire premise behind Lively is to provide the I was there feeling.
