Susan Busch

Runberg Architecture Group (www.runberg.com), a Seattle-based firm specializing in urban mixed-use, housing and adaptive reuse projects, recently promoted Susan Busch, AIA, LEED AP, to senior associate.

Skilled at guiding complex projects through the entitlement process and code review, Busch has demonstrated expertise at all phases of project design and management.

“Susan brings a wealth of experience to her new role as a senior associate on our team,” said Brian Runberg, AIA, partner and founder of the firm. “Throughout her career, Susan has proven herself to be an accomplished team leader during all phases of design and construction – from initial feasibility until final Certificate of Occupancy is received.”

With more than two decades of experience, Busch has a strong emphasis in mixed-use, multi-family and adaptive reuse projects. She believes that each project – regardless of its scale or complexity – deserves good design, and that creative management and adaptive leadership are critical to each project’s success.

Busch is currently project manager for Vulcan, Inc.’s 23rd & Jackson project in Seattle’s Central Area. The project is envisioned as a vibrant, community-oriented mixed-use development that reflects the neighborhood’s unique heritage and culture.

“For me, the greatest satisfaction comes from a truly collaborative design approach that ensures a project works for everyone – the client, neighbors, stakeholders and contractor,” Busch said. “I take pride in knowing that once we have received everyone’s input and incorporated their feedback, all parties view the project as a success and feel good about what they’ve achieved together.”

Before joining Runberg last year, Busch spent nearly four and a half years at HEWITT Architects and prior to that more than six and a half years at Baylis Architects. Her previous project experience includes the Gridiron condominiums in Pioneer Square, Excelsior Apartments on Capitol Hill, and Green Lake Village apartments.

Busch holds a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Washington. She is a member of the City of Kirkland Design Review Board, and has served on the AIA Seattle Public Policy Board, ARCH (A Regional Coalition for Housing) Citizen Advisory Board and the University of Washington Professional Advisory Council.
