John Levesque and Bill Virgin have won awards in this year’s Northwest Excellence in Journalism competition.
Levesque, who is managing editor of Seattle Business magazine, won a first-place award for commentary. His award-winning entries dealt with efforts to address climate change, the personal style of Seattles mayor and the 100th anniversary of the Boeing Company.
Virgin, a longtime contributor to the magazine, won runner-up honors in business reporting and column writing. The business reporting citation was for his January 2016 feature on Seattles place in the next space race. His column entries dealt with the stability of the banking industry, opportunistic taxation and water rights.
The Northwest Excellence in Journalism contest is administered by the Western Washington chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, encompassing entries from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska.
