Seattle-based Brooks Running Co. is the latest retailer to start same-day delivery services.
The company is partnering with Locally, a New Orleans-based company that connects online shoppers with inventory available for in-store pickup or delivery, to begin same-day delivery in 10 major cities, including Seattle. The service will soon roll out to 25 more cities.
It says it is the first running brand to offer same-day delivery.
Brooks, a private company that sells running shoes and apparel, was founded in 1914 and is a subsidiary of Warren Buffetts Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Brooks employs more than 700 workers and does business in more than 50 countries. It recorded $644 million in revenue last year, a 26 percent increase from 2017.
In addition to delivering gear to runners within 24 hours, same-day delivery will create new sales for our specialty running accounts by introducing new customers to their local stores, says Rick Wilhelm, Brooks vice president of specialty retail accounts.
Several retailers have recently begun same-day delivery as they seek to compete with Amazon Inc., including Target, Walmart and Verizon.
