Tom Miller, president, Western Industrial Tooling Inc., Redmond

Tom Miller bought himself an already successful Redmond precision-machining business in 2014 with an eye toward taking it to new levels. To get there, he landed AS9100D certification for close-tolerance complex tools, parts and assemblies for aerospace; added wind-tunnel modeling and new processes such as five-axis machining; and began producing parts instead of just the tooling to make them. The company continues to design and manufacture injection molds and a line of precision wire and cabling equipment. Miller is looking for growth by focusing on small-run niche markets, processes and products, including new applications such as medical devices and the space business.
