John Fitzharris

Bloodworks Northwest has announced the appointment of John Fitzharris, MD, as vice chair of the Lane Advisory Council.

Lane Blood Center joined Bloodworks in October 2014, when the two organizations began to align under a common strategy and management structure. The full harmonization of the two organizations was completed this fall — with full implementation of common information systems to support blood collection, testing and processing technologies.

“The combination of Lane Blood Center with BloodworksNW maintained a strong, local and trusted blood center while creating operating efficiencies and sustainable healthcare costs for the people of Lane and Douglas counties,” noted James P. AuBuchon, MD, president and C

Fitzharris is invited to attend all meetings of the BloodworksNW Board of Trustees as the “voices” of Lane County — providing counsel and guidance about how the blood center can maintain or improve the quality and services to local patients, and fully meet community needs and expectations.

“We are pleased and honored that Pat and John have taken on these leadership roles to ensure that Lane Blood Center continues to be a central player in meeting the healthcare needs of local patients, and that we play a strong and proactive role in the community.”

Other members of the advisory council include: Andy Dinger, Don Nau, Lloyd Helikson, Marie Due, Sandy Farmer, Selene Jaramillo, Susie Johnston, Wendy Apland and Michael Herz, MD.

As the region’s center of excellence and expertise in “all things blood related,” Bloodworks is backed by more than 70 years of Northwest history – supporting more than 90 hospitals, including 15 Oregon hospitals operated by Legacy Health and Providence Health Services. Its comprehensive services include transfusion experts, specialized testing labs, patient care for people with blood diseases or bleeding disorders and a leading blood research institute.
