GE Healthcare acquires Applied Precision

Issaquah-based Applied Precision, maker of cellular imaging technologies for biomedical researchers, has been bought by GE Healthcare for an undisclosed amount. GE Healthcare will use Applied Precisions imaging technology for its own cell biology research. Advanced cellular imaging is now central to areas like new drug development.

Applied Precision began in the semiconductor equipment market in 1986 and expanded into life sciences in 1995, where it has since become a leader in developing, manufacturing and supplying high-resolution microscopes with software and data visualization tools. The companys facilities will remain in Issaquah, where it currently employs about 130 people.
Last year, the executive chairman and founder of Applied Precision, Ronald C. Seubert, was featured in Seattle Business magazine as an honoree in Ernst & Young’s Northwest Entrepreneurs of the Year program.
