Popular and rapidly growing Asian grocer H Mart has filed permits to open a store in Ballard.
The Asian food grocer already operates stores downtown, in Capitol Hill, South Lake Union, Lynnwood, Bellevue and the University District.
An application filed with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board on Feb. 21 lists the address as 951 N.W. Ballard Way in a shopping center space formerly occupied by a New Seasons store. It is near numerous other grocers, including Fred Meyer, Trader Joe’s, Safeway and Town & Country.
H Mart, founded in 1982, first opened in Seattle in 2017. It offers a wide variety of Asian cuisine hard to find in regular grocery stores, including fresh produce, seafood, meat, pantry staples, snacks, beverages and household items. Unique snacks include shrimp crackers, turtle chips, melon-flavored ice cream bars and honey cookies.
No timeline for the opening was listed.
