KeyBank Market President Carol K. Nelson named 2016 Puget Sound Go Red For Women chair by American Heart Association
Carol K. Nelson, Pacific Region Executive and Seattle Market President of KeyBank, will serve as the 2016 chairperson for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement in the Puget Sound.
Go Red For Women is the initiative to reduce cardiovascular diseases, currently the biggest threat to women’s health and the leading cause of death for women in the United States. Heart disease and stroke take the lives of 1 in 3 women each year, yet about 80 percent or cardiovascular diseases are preventable, according to the American Heart Association.
“Heart disease is often said to be a silent killer,” said Nelson. “We encourage women to have an annual conversation with their healthcare providers about their family history and risk factors for heart disease or stroke. In addition, we encourage women to take preventive action and to know the warning signs.”
Supportive messages will be displayed on all KeyBank branch flat screens throughout Washington during the month of February.
Go Red For Women’s icon day is National Wear Red Day, February 5, 2016, when everyone is encouraged to wear red to help raise awareness about heart disease in women. Landmarks throughout the Seattle area will light up red to commemorate the day. The American Heart Association also hosts the annual Puget Sound Go Red For Women® Luncheon to raise funding for women-related initiatives, including research. The luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, March 3.
