Compared to the general population, The Seattle-based e-commerce giant says it expected to see nearly 34,000 positive cases among frontline employees.
Amazon announced that 19,816 Amazon and Whole Foods employees have tested positive or are presumed positive for coronavirus.
After an analysis of the 1,327,000 frontline employees from March 1 to Sept. 1, Amazon said the results are lower than expected. Compared to the general population, The Seattle-based e-commerce giant says it expected to see nearly 34,000 positive cases among frontline employees based on statistics involving the general population.
The results “cast a wide net,” the company said on its website, by including both confirmed and presumptive cases of the virus. The announcement said the results would be “more powerful” if Amazon could compare its case count to other companies.
Amazon’s announcement came just hours after President Donald Trump announced that he and the First Lady tested positive for coronavirus.
“[A]s we continue to ramp up testing, we’ll be able to identify more people who are asymptomatic, quickly contact trace, enforce our quarantine process, and help to remove people from the community so they can recover before they infect others,” Amazon said.
