Windows Phone general manager Charlie Kindel is leaving Microsoft to launch his own tech startup. In a farewell blog post to colleagues, Kindel said he may stop using some Microsoft products after he departs the company — “but not Windows Phone, the BEST product Microsoft has ever built.”

In a humorous aside to his children, Kindel also said: “No, just because I dont work at Microsoft anymore you may not use Google. Remember, every time you use Google, a puppy dies.

Kindel hasn’t said specifically what his startup will be doing, but he told GeekWire‘s Todd Bishop that it will have something to do with “advertising, mobile, cloud computing and youth athletics.”

Kindel has been with Microsoft for 21 years. Here’s his farewell blog post.
