The Lusty Lady to Close
By Seattle Business Magazine April 12, 2010
The Lusty Lady, the adult club in downtown Seattle that is one of the final remants of the city’s more tawdry past, is closing in June.
The general manager, Darrell Davis, tells The Stranger, that the recession combined with the wide availability of free internet porn have made business unsustainable.
Known for its titillating and punny marquees more than anything else, the Lady drew fans from a much wider population than those who passed through its doors. Mimi Gardner Gates, former director of the Seattle Art Musuem across the street, called the sign a “Seattle landmark.”
The Stranger also links to a photo spread of memorable marquees over the years.
There is another Lusty Lady in San Francisco, which is owned by the dancers as a cooperative.
