Gary S. Kaplan, MD

Virginia Mason Chairman and CEO Gary S. Kaplan, MD, is No. 89 on Modern Healthcare magazine’s 2019 list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.

This is the 11th time he has been on the national publication’s roster of most influential people. The Modern Healthcare ranking honors individuals who are regarded by their peers and the magazine’s expert panel to be the most influential in terms of leadership and impact.

In addition to serving as chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason since 2000, Dr. Kaplan is a practicing internal medicine physician; chair of the Lucian Leape Institute at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI); and past chair of the IHI Board of Directors.

Dr. Kaplan is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Medical Practice Executives, and the American College of Physician Executives.
