Roxana Norouzi
Roxana Norouzi began as OneAmerica’s new Deputy Director, effective August 1st. Roxana’s many talents and greater responsibilities will allow OneAmerica and OneAmerica Votes to advance our mission building power in immigrant and refugee communities. Over the last two years Roxana played an important role in building a multi-ethnic, multigenerational and multi-racial strategy in south King County, and demonstrated excellent leadership with OneAmerica staff, grassroots leaders and members and with a dynamic set of organizational partnerships that have led to some of OneAmerica’s most important victories and accomplishments.
Roxana Norouzi has over a decade of experience in advocacy and social justice work with immigrant and refugee populations. She has been involved with OneAmerica since 2009 overseeing the organizing, policy and campaign work of the organization. Roxana built and developed a strategy at OneAmerica to improve education for immigrant children and families through local and state policy advocacy and community organizing and leadership development with parents and youth. In addition to her role at OneAmerica she is a faculty instructor at the University of Washington in the School of Public Health where she teaches community development. Roxana is the past Board President of the Seattle Globalist, a global to local news media platform and serves as Vice-President of the Children’s Alliance Board of Directors. From 2014 to 2016 Roxana was an appointee to the City of Seattle’s Immigrant and Refugee Commission and currently is a member of the King County Best Starts for Kids Children and Youth Advisory Board. Early in her career Roxana worked as a housing case manager for five years which has grounded her direct experiences with families and communities. In 2010, after earning her Masters in Social Work at the University of Washington, Roxana was awarded the Bonderman Fellowship which allowed her to travel to twenty countries exploring and reporting on post-conflict regions, migration trends, and identity. Roxana is fluent in Farsi (Persian) and her experience as a first generation American informs her passion and commitment to education, racial equity and immigrant justice.
