Seattle Maternity Photographer speaks about her art
Jennifer Loomis is Seattle’s own photographer. Known as the pioneer in maternity photography, Loomis has been creating amazing images of the pregnant female form since before it was cool to do so. Her journey has included opening studios in San Francisco and New York, a retrospective of her work in Italy, photographing famous musicians from the Seattle scene and more.
Loomis is an artist who defies art. She takes the pregnant mother and makes real photos that aren’t the saccharine hands in the shape of a heart on the belly nonsense. She is pushing the envelope and encouraging the normal people to see this pregnant female form as beautiful, and now with her newer work, sacred.
Loomis is returning to her craft after a five year hiatus she started upon receiving some devastating news. To clear her head, she walked across Spain and lived to tell about it, and ultimately had a baby at 46 – and lived to tell about it.
Loomis will be talking about her new photographic work, again with pregnant women and now introducing their babies, called The Sacred Mother.
