Boeing hands out more layoffs, hundreds locally

By Seattle Business Magazine September 28, 2009

Boeing has continued to cut jobs as part of its continuing efforts to trim 10,000 positions in 2009. Most recently, the company cut 1,168 positions during the summer months, 375 of them in the Puget Sound region, and 275 of those at Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Boeing’s defense division has also been working toward a goal of cutting 1,000 positions this year because of Pentagon budget cuts. Since January, Boeing has cut nearly 3,400 positions in Washington state, 2,400 of them from layoffs and the rest eliminating unfilled openings. The company’s statewide employment stands at about 74,000.
