Pioneer Square tech scene expands
By Seattle Business Magazine October 19, 2011
EMC Corp. unveiled its plans for the future of Isilon Systems and other tech hubs across the country Wednesday. EMC, a data management company based in Massachussetts, acquired Isilon last December for $2.25 billion. Isilon focuses its business on data storage.
The company just opened a 140,000 square foot Center of Excellence in the heart of Pioneer Square, which already holds 430 Isilon employees. Isilon announced Wednesday that the company would add 200 jobs, a 75 percent growth in employment since EMPs acquisition.
The job growth means good things not only for the company, but for Pioneer Square. The struggling neighborhood has been on the upswing as numerous tech companies have decided to relocate there in recent months, among them Zynga and Swype.
