Wayne Wright

Stantec Hires Principal Scientist in Bellevue Office

Leader in environmental services to help expand Stantec’s ecosystem restorative division in Pacific Northwest states.

Stantec hired Wayne Wright as a principal scientist in the Bellevue, WA office to oversee Stantec’s growth in biological services in the Pacific Northwest states and expand its ecosystem restoration division.

An active consulting scientist in the United States since 1982, Wright’s specialties include permitting, fisheries, wetlands, reservoir management, river restoration, estuary restoration, riparian systems, water quality, Endangered Species Act consultations, agency negotiations, and public outreach and teaching. His work focuses on aquatic habitat restoration, watershed recovery, species recovery, mitigation planning and design, permitting, monitoring, and business development.

“Wayne is a market leader for fish passage assessments in the State of Washington. He has been heavily involved in issues and projects related to fish passage and barrier removal for the past four years,” says Bill Holladay, principal. “He also has significant expertise in storm water issues, biological services, particularly as related to fish, Endangered Species Act, and tribal treaty issues, and sustainability (water use/reuse). He will allow Stantec to broaden its environmental services expertise in the Pacific Northwest and become a regional leader in the fish related sciences.”

Wright led a team to develop an ec0-hydraulic model and application to assist with restoration design and planning. The model can calculate habitat uplift for any aquatic species related to any habitat restoration activity. The model is particularly useful with long term monitoring to document the net benefits of habitat restoration.

Wright received a master’s degree in fisheries from the University of Washington. He is a certified professional wetlands scientist and a certified fisheries professional. He currently serves as a national board member of the American Water Resources Associations (AWRA) and has long term memberships with American Fisheries Society (AFS), Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and American Public Works Association (APWA).  Wright is an active member of the Puget Sound community participating with several local boards, actively serving Rotary, and annually volunteering with the Boeing Classic Golf event and other local fundraisers.
