Fred Meyer is the most popular grocery chain in Washington state, based on Google and Yelp trends.
The analysis was compiled by 24/7 Tempo, a member of the 24/7 Wall St. network, a financial news and opinion company. 24/7 researched the five supermarket chains with the most reviews in each state and compared their Google search frequency for a one-week period.
Leschi Market is the best independent grocery store, based on Yelp ratings.
Fred Meyer, which was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1922, is part of the massive Kroger Co., a Cincinnati-based company that owns several other supermarket chains, including Bellevue-based QFC. The report notes that Fred Meyer supermarkets are huge, “occupying an average of 150,000 square feet and carrying more than 225,000 products.”
Fred Meyer is also the most popular supermarket in Portland. There are more than 130 Fred Meyer supermarkets in four states, according to 24/7.
