Phillipe Riese

Remitly announced the appointment of Phillip Riese to its Board of Directors. Riese comes to Remitly with over 40 years of experience in the financial services industry including major operating roles at American Express and Chase Manhattan Bank, and board, advisory and mentoring roles in leading innovative FinTech companies like Flywire, Betterment, and Zopa.

“I’m excited to have Phillip join Remitly’s board. He brings a wealth of knowledge and passion in the financial services space, particularly around creating new and disruptive consumer financial services,” said Remitly CEO, Matt Oppenheimer.

Riese retired from American Express in 1998 as President of the Consumer Card Group and Chairman of American Express Centurion Bank. Prior to American Express, he was Division Executive leading Chase Manhattan Bank’s Merchant Services Business.

Since 1998, through RIESE & Others, he has been actively involved in a growing portfolio of investments, primarily aimed at growth stage financial services and analytics companies globally.

“With an astounding companywide dedication to helping millions of people keep the promises they make to provide financial support to their loved ones abroad, every member of the Remitly team changes peoples’ lives every day,” commented Riese. “They do this by living up to their promise of making remittances really easy, really fast and really reliable, challenging every service promise of the billion-dollar incumbents. It’s no wonder the company is growing so rapidly, and no wonder I’m thrilled to be a part of their next chapter.”
