Swype Going Big-time

By Seattle Business Magazine June 21, 2010

Following up from Leslie’s earlier post here, Swype, the technology firm creating an innovative way to “type” on a touchscreen device, is getting lots of favorable press, this time in the New York Times this morning.

Readers of this magazine and website are probably familiar with the Swype story. The same engineers who designed the T9 key-entry system for sending text on a mobile phone (without pressing three or four keys per letter) and sold it to AOL are behind the new company. Simply drag your finger across a displayed keyboard and the software does the rest.

Having tried it, I can vouch for its coolness.

The Times story notes that Swype technology is now on seven models of phone, and will be on 50 by the end of the year. Apple’s iPhone, which would seem a natural fit, isn’t on the list yet.

We profiled Swype in our September 2009 issue, and later named CEO Mike McSherry on of our Top Innovators for last year.
