Positive signs for Microsoft technology

By Seattle Business Magazine May 27, 2011

Even though it is late entering the game, Microsoft remains optimistic about cornering a share of the tablet and smartphone markets based on the strength of its technology.

Bloomberg, citing three people familiar with the situation, reports that Microsoft will debut a Windows operating system for Tablet PCs at the All Things D conference next week. The touchscreen technology will run on an Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) Tegra chip. Back in March, the company said the operating system would not be released until 2012.

Citigroup predicts Microsoft could still gain a large portion of the tablet marketplace in 2013. The report cautioned that success would depend on the quality of the interface.

The news comes just days after Microsoft unveiled its Mango update for the Windows Phone 7. Developers said the update contains more than 500 new features, including improved search results, better social media integration with contacts and voice-to-text support.
