According to a press release, TerraPower LLC, the Bellevue-based company featured in last month’s issue, just raised $35 million in funding according to a press release posted today. The money comes from Charles River Ventures and Khosla Ventures, as well as long-time supporters Bill Gates and Nathan Myhrvold.
TerraPower is a spinoff of Myhrvold’s Intellectual Ventures, a consortium of inventors that, among other things, is trying to wipe out malaria by blasting mosquitoes out of the air with lasers. TerraPower’s invention is a nuclear reactor that runs off depleted uranium, a waste byproduct of conventional nuclear reactors.
