Dry Tasting

As one of Washington state’s first independent distilleries, Dry Fly Distilling comes out strong with three quality liquors. We, the editorial team at Seattle Business, decided we would be remiss if we didn’t conduct our own tasting, which we did at Anthony’s Pier 66 in downtown Seattle.

Dry Fly Vodka ($30)

The vodka features a fruity scent derived from the Washington winter wheat used during the distilling process. Unlike other vodkas, which can taste flat and empty, Dry Fly’s vodka has a spice to it while also giving off just a hint of sweetness, and a clean finish with almost no aftertaste. An excellent vodka to drink neat because of the subtle flavors, it would also mix well in a martini and summer cocktails.

Dry Fly Gin ($30)

Since it is made from the same wheat as the vodka, the gin smells similarly sweet but also adds a spicy aroma. The alcohol is softened by the botanical flavor and the gin kicks with a slight bite before finishing cleanly. The flavors are strong enough to make this gin an excellent martini base or the main ingredient in a bare-bones cocktail.

Dry Fly Whiskey ($46)

The nose consists of strong caramel overtones and a lighter spicy note. The palette is warming with cinnamon and orange flavors, and the caramel scent carries through the taste. As with the other Dry Fly products, the alcohol is not overpowering, making this an excellent whiskey to enjoy by itself or to mix in a Manhattan or your preferred cocktail.
