Twenty years ago, the cultural critic Neil Postman warned about the deification of technology, fearing that a society ruled by technology—he called it technopoly—would blindly embrace the benefits of technological advancement without understanding the costs. Postman didn't count on users being able to consume technology without being consumed by it, or to create technology that observed the distinction between gadgetry and true innovation. With the Tech Impact Awards, Seattle Business magazine celebrates a geographically diverse group of individuals and companies whose grasp of technology and its ability to make our lives better is hugely impressive and simply impossible to ignore.
